Meet Loftus’ newest member of the fleet – Melbourne Y1 611
Built in 1930, Y1 611 has been restored by Bendigo Tramway’s workshops and was delivered to Sydney on the 3rd of Feburary.
The car will join the operational fleet once it’s been checked over and modified for Sydney operation. There is currently no time table for this activity.
Homecoming for 139s (11W)
Also arriving was 11W; a former Melbourne ‘scrubber’ car. Also known as former Sydney scrubber car 139s, and former K class passenger car 797. This was one of two similar ex K class scrubber cars that were sold to Melbourne in 1959 when they became surplus to the shrinking Sydney tramways. It was used in Melbourne until being withdrawn from service in 2002.
Thanks to Frank McQuade for being present to document these deliveries.
