Trams After Dark

A very rare Saturday: this coming weekend, 18th June
4 pm until 9 pm.

Sydney’s winter nights are bracing – but not so much that we can’t enjoy a night out!

Keen lovers of trams already appreciate the aesthetics of brightly lit trams after dark, but each year some first-timers try it to see for themselves. Used to the dimly lit buses of today, they are usually astonished.

Families with children will find that our special Saturday late afternoon opening time of 4 p.m. allows the young ones to get their bearings as the daytime shadows begin to lengthen and night gradually closes in.

Held only three days before the official Winter Solstice, it will be fairly dark by five o’clock and young ones can enjoy some magical tram trips in the brighly lit trams before meal-time.

Trams had a charm of their own at night whether viewed from outside or on board. More brightly lit internally than most homes, they shone as beacons of welcome – enticing us out … to the pictures, or a night out with friends!

A modest range of light refreshments will be available. Hot pies and sausage rolls, ice-creams soft drinks or tea or coffee. Plus two electric barbeques are available to visitors at no cost. Naturally, the meat is B.Y.O.!

Grown ups amongst us can enjoy all this until 9 pm

Prices: normal prices, adults $15, children, $8, Seniors/concessions $10, pre-schoolers free, Family (2 adults + 2 children) $46, additional children in the same family free.
