Saturday Afternoon and Night, 25th July – 3 pm to 9 pm
……A Night for Photographers!……….. …and for tram riders………
Beginning in the late afternoon, there’ll be a series of re-enactments of past scenes of warmly lit gloriously lit trams, re-creating scenes of Sydney and Brisbane nightlife. Whether one was enjoying the warm ambience of a brighly lit tram from the inside or watching the enticing glow of a passing tram, trams by night had a romance of their own.
You can re-enact those days when we bring out some beautiful old trams, including some of our oldest – which you – and friends – can enjoy.
There are not many night photographs of trams still around from the era of trams. There were flash pictures of “last night” scenes, but these rarely captured the warm glow of the internal lighting offered by the trams. One needed to be capable of innovative push processing of black and white negatives to obtain decent night shots. And has anyone seen coloured slides of trams taken at night from those days?
In these digital days (and nights!) you can bring those years to life!
We are arranging to have some motor cars of the tram era as we see here just before the passengers boarded it. The tram driver pictured, Col Rhodes, was a professional member of the public transport team. The driver of the Ford Falcon was its proud owner, Tony Buckland.
The final model of the Brisbane tram fleet was this smooth running corridor car, perfect for a bracing Sydney August evening.
Be sure to wear warm clothing so that you can maximise your enjoyment.
We’ll have tea and coffee available to keep you warm on this occasion.
We suggest that you revisit this page soon for an update of our arrangements for this memorable night.
