Fifty-four years after the final closure of Sydney’s once huge tramway system, Sydney-siders, about to experience modern light rail, flocked into our Sydney Tramway Museum to experience –
trams … two generations later!
A crowd favourite – again with the kind permission of the Powerhouse Museum, we ran several trips of the coupled sets of the pre-WW I trams, a huge fleet of over 600 which took people around our suburbs until the late 1950s. The two trams coupled seated up to 160 when running together. They revolutionised Sydney’s public transport.
We hope to bring you new photos of the great day by Monday evening!
